Gone Birding

Love is in the air

It’s edging towards spring, and the birds on High Island are getting a running start…at breeding that is. They are building nests and courting at the rookery on Clay Bottom Pond. Led by Hosuton Audubon legend Joe Smith who had a tip about amorous activity at the Smith Oaks Bridge Sanctuary we went to investigate. One wonderful surprise was the large number of Roseate Spoonbills, who almost outnumbered all the varieties of egrets and cormorants. All in all, a very thrilling morning in one of the most superlative places to bird in the country.

Coming up next, an interview with Adam Davis, one of the founders of Ecosystems Investment Partners, a group that inspired Jim during his development of the Texas Coastal Exchange and BCarbon.
